Autism

What is autism?

Autism, also known as the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how a person perceives and interacts with the world around him. It is termed “spectrum” because it refers to a broad range of ways that it can affect the person, with varying degrees of severity. It is estimated that around 1 to 2% of children are affected by some form of autism. Despite this, its causes are under developing investigation and remain unclear.

What are the symptoms of autism?

As mentioned before, the term spectrum refers to the many ways autism can affect different individuals. Most of these symptoms can be identified from the earliest stages in life. The most important symptoms include:

  • difficulty with social interactions,
  • delayed language development,
  • unusual communication methods,
  • challenges to convey empathy,
  • fixation on specific interests,
  • sensory overloads,
  • having the need to seek intense sensory experiences,
  • difficulty with abstract thinking and learning.

How is autism traditionally treated?

Recent studies have theorized that the cause for autism lies in dietary and environmental factors that trigger genetic predispositions. These triggers are believed to involve inflammation processes and responses from the immune system, which disrupt normal neural development in children.

Nonetheless, since the absolute cause is still not clear, it remains a condition that has no cure. However, through therapies and symptom-based medications, patients can maintain their quality of life. Common therapies employed include behavioral therapy, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and educational support.

How can stem cells help treat autism?

Our regenerative therapy offers a promising therapeutic approach in the treatment of the Autism Spectrum Disorder. The effects of autism are linked to a dysregulated immune system and the inflammation resulting from it. Our mesenchymal stem cells derived from Wharton’s jelly (UC-MSC), found in umbilical cord of healthy donors, have special immunomodulatory properties that regulate the immune system from unwanted, harmful reactions and activate anti-inflammatory cellular and molecular ways. Immune regulation also promotes the activation of self-healing processes and the proliferation of resident neural stem cells, which are responsible for restoring normal brain development. The proliferation of healthy neural cells leads to significant improvement in the cognitive and perceptual skills of the child.

We use mesenchymal stem cells derived from the Wharton’s jelly (WJ-MSCs) found in the umbilical cord of healthy human donors. Umbilical cord tissue provides one of the most abundant sources of stem cells. This non-surgical approach greatly simplifies the procedure to retrieve and cultivate the cells. We then screen and test the cells to ensure their potency and their safety. Because of the nature of the cells, they pose an ethical, yet effective option. At our clinic, we pair the stem cell treatment with other therapies that amplify the body’s natural ability to heal through adjoining treatments like the molecular hydrogen therapy. Your child will have all he needs to heal in one place.

Often paired with traditional therapies, regenerative therapies can lead to considerable improvement in cognitive ability and sociability in children. Our protocols have proven to be safe and effective, and they have made positive changes in the life of children. Their parents report they sleep and eat better, do better in school and communicate more effectively. There have also been reports of a decrease in the frequency of meltdowns or aggressive behavior.

As parents, we want our children to thrive. Few treatment options had been available until now. Ongoing research shows stem cell therapies have the potential for greater efficacy in treating the autism spectrum disorder than traditional methods, as we grow to understand the underlying causes of the disorder. This is a great hope for parents and the children suffering from autism who thought there are no options available.
